Ellen C. Barnes was born 27-Jun-1852 in Fairfield, (now Oak Grove), Dodge County, Wisconsin. Some time in the subsequent five years, the family moved to Steele County Minnesota, where her uncle Joseph Barnes purchased land just outside of Merton, which is north-east of Owatonna.
In 1876 Ellen married Albert Henry Searle (1849-1915). The couple moved to Marshall County, Minnesota, until some time between 1900 and 1910 when they moved to Yakima County, Washingon.
Ellen died on 2-May 1922, and is buried along with her husband in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, Yakima, Washington. Two of her siblings, George Freeman Barnes (1855-abt.1911) and Charles Edwin Barnes (1858-1933) are buried in the same cemetery.
