Rachel was born in 1817, 6 miles east of New Castle, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Thomas F Barnes and Jane Teeter. In 1832 she moved with her parents and their other children to Morgan County, Indiana; her father died later that summer. She passed away about 1852, near the Platte River, along the Oregon Trail.
