Biography

According to the 1871 census, Albert was born about 1865, the second child of his mother's marriage to James Barnes.

His father died in 1867 and, in 1870, his mother married Henry Saxby.

1871 Census: Caroline lives at 1 Providence Cottage, Winchester Estate, Hawkhurst. Her sons, George and Charles, are shown as her new husband's sons, being enumerated with his surname. Caroline and Henry are both 36, born Hawkhurst. Henry is a shoemaker. George, 15, is a Bricklayers labourer, and Charles, 12, an Errand Boy. Predating the marriage, Caroline has three other children: Frances, 9, and Albert, 6, both Scholars, and Emily, 3, all born Benenden, Kent. [1]
