John was listed with his mother in the census of in 1850 at St. George Parish, Acc Co, VA. He was shown as Jno. W. Barnes the head of HH#540, a 21 year old farmer with real estate valued at $1,000. Listed with him were the following Barnes: Eliz, age 40 and Marg't, age 19. Also listed was Ben Savage, age 14.[1]
