Born Enos Barnes in 1785 in Guilford County, North Carolina. Is said to have fought with Old Hickory at Battle of New Orleans; went first to Kentucky and then in 1830 to Illinois. Married first Nancy Collett and settled in Coles County, Illinois and had at least five children.[19] Married second Elizabeth Cooper on 28 Nov. 1860 in Johnson County, Indiana.[20] Died in 1873 at age 88, and is buried in St. Omer Cemetery, Ashmore, Coles County, Illinois.
