Biography

Amy Evelyn Barnes was the daughter of William Barnes (1841 - 1930) and Julia Gould (1850 - 1922). Amy was born 17 October 1875 in Rockford, Illinois.[1]

Amy married first, Chambers Logan Peirce (1866 - 1930), the son of Joseph and Julia (Haas) Pierce. Amy and Chambers were married 21 May 1902 at Rockford, Illinois.[2]

Amy and Logan had a son, Logan Fletcher Peirce (1903 - 1939) and a daughter, Evelyn Barnes Peirce (1907 - 1991).

In 1920, Amy married Francis Adonijah Lane (1874 - 1927). "Mr. and Mrs. W. Fletcher Barnes of North Main street announce the marriage of their daughter, Amy Barnes Peirce, to Dr. Francis Lane of Chicago, which took place Sept. 12 at Duluth, Minn. After a month at Gordon, Wis., they will be at home at Chicago."[3]

After her husband's death, Amy traveled extensively and then, upon her return to Rockford, she opened a travel agency. "The latest member of Rockford's social set who has decided to embark upon a business career is Mrs. Francis (Amy Barnes) Lane, daughter of the late W. F. Barnes, who is to have a travel bureau at 512 N. Main St. Since Mrs. Lane has spent some 18 months abroad, visiting England, France, Switzerland, the Mediterranean counties, Africa and Germany (where she spent an entire year) it can plainly be seen that she is extremely well qualified to plan others' European travels."[4]

After her retirement, Amy moved west and settled in Altadena, California, where she died 14 August 1959.[5]

Amy is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois, with her second husband, and her parents, and her son.[6]
