Biography

Birth 14 DEC 1846 Alexander County, NC, US Death certificate lists place of birth as Wilkes County. The cause of death was a brain concussion.

Solomon struggled with both religious and political convictions throughout his lifetime. They are documented in a blog at www.CompetitiveStrategies.us [1]

Donated the land for Little Rock Baptist Church and served as its first minister.

Solomon's mother Elizabeth "Betsy" was 63 at the time of the 1880 Federal Census and lived with Solomon and his family. Solomon donated the land for Little Rock Baptist Church located off highway 18 in Wilkes County just across the Caldwell County line. He served as it's first pastor. His death certificate listed only farmer as occupation.

James Larkin Pearson, Poet Laureate of North Carolina in his autobiography "Poet's Progress" noted that "Ol Sol" was a mesmerizing preacher. Pearson went on to say that Solomon questioned what he was preaching after reading the writing of Pastor Charles Taz Russell [2]. Wikipedia states that "Charles Taze Russell (February 16, 1852 – October 31, 1916), or Pastor Russell, was an American prominent early 20th century Christian restorationist minister from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, and founder of what is now known as the Bible Student movement, from which Jehovah's Witnesses and numerous independent Bible Student groups emerged after his death." Restorationism is discussed in Wikipedia [3].
