This is not the Charles Barnes who married Ann Gibbs
According to books about the poet William Barnes his brother Charles married Elizabeth DREW (Please see comment below).

What source does Ashdown quote for the marriage of Charles Barnes to Elizabeth Drew? It's always possible that he just got it wrong - just because it's written in a book doesn't necessarily make it true. Do you have a verifiable source for such a marriage?
Some additional facts for Charles Barnes:
Ann Barnes died 1863 (GRO: 1863 J Quarter in STURMINSTER Volume 05A Page 172, aged 68) Charles Barnes (widower) married 10 Sep 1865 in Marnhull to Ann Kendall (widow) (PR transcript at FindMyPast) Charles Barnes died 1871 (GRO:1871 M Quarter in STURMINSTER Volume 05A Page 185, aged 75) Ann Barnes (widow, aged 68, born Marnhull) was living at New Street, Marnhull with a James Kendall in 1871 (RG10/1972/33/4)
I was hoping to find that Ann (Kendall) Barnes was nee Drew which would have squared the circle but she was nee Clarke and previously married to an Edward Kendall who died in 1854.
If you can find some evidence of the marriage of Charles Barnes to Elizabeth Drew, then he needs separating away from Ann Gibbs. If not, then the most sensible course would seem to be to merge the two profiles and note that a different view appears in a book about William Barnes.
Thanks for your interest and comments. All you say is true, but the marriage to Elizabeth Drew is also recorded in the book by Giles Dugdale entitled 'William Barnes of Dorset' as being comments that William Barnes himself wrote down. Now you could also argue that his memory may have failed him but I would prefer to err on the side of caution. I have been researching this for some years and I believe the birth records for Blandford at the time Charles was born were burned which may be why they don't exist. I also think the fact that the birth places are close is not significant. If Charles-25279 was born in Sturminster Marshall why would he have said Blandford when there are other towns much closer? I have heard a theory that Charles mother was called Martha Barnes of Marnhull and that he was illegitimate, I have also heard that they were Catholic - there are many options but without evidence I think the likelihood that he was not William's brother to be greater. I have had a DNA test and plan to spend my retirement looking to see if I can locate any 4th cousins who can prove descent from William which might indicate he is my gt gt gt grandfather's brother. I would be looking to find 3 pieces of independent information which corroborate a fact before making any assumptions. My gt gt grandfather William-25278 lived in Todber in the house next to where I was born so I am hoping to be able to prove this one way or another by researching how the properties passed into our possession especially because William the poet's ancestors are said to have had land in Todber. I think the jury is still very much out on this! Kind regards

Charles Barnes who was John and Grace's son and brother to William Barnes the poet married Elizabeth Drew according to Douglas Ashdown's book (An Introduction to William Barnes the Dorset Poet). I therefore don't believe this information to be correct. Charles and Ann are my gt gt gt grandparents.
