Biography

Mary Ann Barnes was born in Boone County, Missouri in 1816, the daughter of James Turner Barnes and Elizabeth Hobbs Burkhartt. She was one of fifteen children. She married first Drury D Mayes, in 1832. they had five children together. After Drury's passing in 1864, along the Oregon Trail, she later married Chisholm Griffith, in 1866. She passed away in 1899. A family story is that a rose she carried across the plains is planted at her gravesite
