Siblings are

Phillip emigrated from England to Canada in the mid to late 1830's

Phillip married Mary Nichols (of England) in 1838 ..England or Canada.

They had the following Children

  1. Sarah Barnes born Feb 1839 Canada. m William Gentle (born Scotland) in 1868 and moved to Vermont, then shortly thereafter to New York. By the 1900 Rochester, NY census, they had 3 children and Sarah is a widow. Children are: William (b. Aug 1868 Vermont), Mary (b.Nov 1869 NY) and Minnie (b. Jan 1872 in NY). I can't find Sarah after the 1900 census, so perhaps she died in the city of Rochester.
  2. Ann Elizabeth Barnes born 1841 m John Watkins in 1872 Ottawa. She died in Carleton county 24 Sep 1914.
  3. Jane Barnes born 1843 Ottawa. m 20 Apr 1871 Robert Thomlinson born in England (their name varies, sometimes it's spelled Tomlinson). They moved to Illinois after having son James D. Tomlinson in 1872 in Ontario. They can be found in the 1880 Joliet, Illinois census with 2 more children: Martha (b. abt 1873, Illinois) and Robert (b. abt 1876, Illinois).
  4. Martha Barnes born 1845 Ottawa m Simpson Fleming 1870's. She was not his first wife and he is about 20 years older than her. They are in the 1881 Ottawa census. (They had 3 children: Mary Louise(5 Dec 1878), Charles Henry(10 Dec 1880), John(16 Jun 1883). died betw 1883 and 1900 Ottawa.
  5. James born 1848, married 9 May 1877 Elizabeth Halliday. I can find nothing else about them, so perhaps they moved down to the states too.
  6. John Barnes born 1850 Ottawa. m ___? d ____?.
  7. Elizabeth, born 1853 and died 9 Jan 1914, married 8 May 1883, John Alexander McVean (1860-22 Sep 1888 of consumption). I don't believe that there were any children from this marriage.
  8. Mary Amy was born 11 Jul 1855 and died 26 Apr 1928. Husband Gilbert Heron was born abt 1854 and died in 1929.
  9. Harriet was born 1857 (age 4 1861 Census) and married Donald "Roderick" Morrison 14 Nov 1888. d 1923 Alberta.
  10. Henry "Philip" Barnes, born 1859 in Gloucester, died 2 Apr 1890 of Bright's Disease and Consumption. Unmarried.
  11. Robert Barnes born 1866 Gloucester, Ottawa, Canada West.
