Biography

John Barnett

One of the pioneer settlers of Mecklenburg County. John was born in Ireland.. He immigrated to the American colonies & was in Mecklenburg County when it was formed from Anson County in 1761. He first settled near Centre Presbyterian Church (an area that is now Iredell County) but later relocated to the area that is now Pineville. He married Ann Spratt, daughter of Thomas Spratt. They had 5 children: Mary, Ann, William W., Susanna, & another son whose name is not known. [1]

Spouse: Ann Spratt Barnett (1718-1801) m. 1745, Children: William Barnett 1747-1834, Thomas Barnett 1754-1776, Jean Barnett 1756-1776, Susanna Barnett Smartt (1761-1852).

The graves of his wife & other relatives were moved from the original location to Sharon Memorial Park in 1988. No grave was located for John, so the marker here is just a memorial for him. The location of his actual grave is not known, although it is possible he was buried next to where wife Ann was later buried but that his stone crumbled later.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Barnett-3681 and Barnett-662 appear to represent the same person because: These two profiles have the same Find A Grave link in them.

Looks like a merge should take place. Birthplace is listed as Ireland on Find A Grave. No sources for birth location on either of the profiles so can just put Ireland and mark as Uncertain. Thank you for reviewing, Teresa (WikiTree Arborist)
