James was born 6 May 1853 in Arkansas and was the son of William Barnett and Editha Smith. He passed away 28 Dec 1937 from complications due to nephritis's, an enlarged prostrate and chronic myocarditis, according to his death certificate.
James was born in Independence County and grew up in Sharp County, Arkansas. On 04 December 1879, James married his young bride, Nancy Ella Meek, in Sharp County. By the early 1890's he moved the family to Texas where they were engaged in farming and ranching among other ventures. They lived in Hall, Donley, Childress, and Hartley County, Texas before moving to Long Beach California around 1928.
James Alexander Barnett is interned in the Angeles Abbey Memorial Park,1515 E. Compton Blvd., Compton, Los Angeles County, California, 90221-3499 USA.
