John Barnett Sr served with Pennsylvania during the American Revolution.

North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000, John Barnett, male, age 70, birth date 08/29/1752, birthplace Hanover Township, first marriage date 04/29/1784, death date 05/12/1823, Father Joseph Barnett, Mother Elizabeth Graham, spouse Mary McEwen, child: Mary Barnett. John Barnett born 8/18/1752 in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania. He was a farmer by occupation. At the outset of the Revolution, he was appointed a Lieutenant in the Hanover battalion of Associations, commanded by Colonel Timothy Green. He served with distinction at Long Island, August 27, 1776, and through the campaign of 1777 was in constant service. During the remainder of the war, he was in command of a volunteer company, which was formed for the protection of the frontiers from the encroachment of the Tories and their allies, the savage Indians of New York. The sword which he carried through the war is now in the possession of William Barnett, Dayton, Ohio. Major Barnett died 05/12/1823. He married April 29, 1784, Mary McEwen, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, a very estimable lady. She was born 9/9/1762; died 03/10/1806 and is interred by the side of her husband.

From Commemorative biographical encyclopedia of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania - John Barnett, was the fourth in descent from John Barnett, who came from Londonderry, Ireland, to Pennsylvania, prior to 1780.

From Chuck Todd's Barnett Family Research - He was best knowns as "Major John Barnett" of the militia.
