Biography

Born on November 6th, 1886 to Samuel Eben Barney and his wife Ida. Ida Barney was an American astronomer

Barney was educated at Smith College and later received a PH.D. in mathematics Yale University.

After receiving her PH.D. Barney taught at several schools including Rollins College and her alma mater Smith College.

In 1922 Barney was appointed as a Research Assistant at the Yale University Observatory, a position she held for 27 years before being promoted to Research Associate in 1949.

In 1952 Barney was awarded the Annie J. Cannon Award in Astronomy from the American Astronomical Society.
