Ivan Allen was born June 3rd, 1898 at 3:00 AM in Spencer, Idaho.[1][4][8] His father was James Peter Barney, age 44, originally from Denmark, and Alice Lee, age 28, a native of Utah. [1][2] Ivan was Alice's 3rd child.[2]
Ivan grew up for his first 20 years in Fremont County, Idaho where his family lived.[2][3][5] As an adult, Ivan was about 5 ft 9 in tall (175 cm), with brown hair, grey eyes, and a light complexion.[8]
On Januar 1, 1918, Ivan enlisted in the United States Army.[4] He attained the rank of Private as a trooper in the 15th Cavalry Regiment.[4] On his discharge, on July 2, 1919, Ivan was living at 1914 Preston Ave, Los Angeles, California,[4] though he later returned to his family in Fremont County, Idaho.[5]
Ivan married Minnie Hollie Lusk ("Hollie") on 27 June 1925. [10][6] The couple spent time in Texas, where James E. Barney, their first son, was born[6] before settling in Rock Creek, Pottawatomie Co., Oklahoma around 1927 to 1928, where their first daughter was born.[6]
By 1940 the family was living at 2104 North Bonita in Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co., Oklahoma, with their 3 children.[7][8]
Ivan passed away in October 26, 1962 in Los Angeles County, California.[9]
