When Adelaide Electa "Addie" Barney was born on December 11, 1856, in Waukegan, Illinois, her father, Sylvanus, was 34, and her mother, Harriet, was 32. She married John Brenizer Gochnaur on February 12, 1879, in Chicago, Illinois. They had five children in 16 years. She died on October 9, 1927, in Bennet, Nebraska, at the age of 70, and was buried there.
