Biography

  • Albert was born in Ohio on 7 May 1867, the son of Harrison and Mary Ann Barnhart.

In 1870, the Barnhart family lived in Reedsville, Olive Township, Meigs, Ohio. The household included Asa H. Barnhart, 32, a cooper, with $300 in real estate; his wife Mary A., 28 (Mary and Asa could not read or write); their five children, Henry C., 9, in school; Sarah A., 7, in school; Jennie, 5, in school; Albert, 3; and Landora, five months. All were born in Ohio. Living nearby were two families connected to the Asa Barnhart family, the Leander Chevaliers and the Carrolus Barnharts. [1]

In 1880, the Barnhart family lived in Olive Meigs, Ohio. The household included Harris (Asa Harrison) Barnhart, 45, a widow, a cooper by trade, whose parents were born in Ohio, as was he. Harris could not write; his eight children, all born in Ohio, Henry, 20, a cooper; Sarah, 18; Jennie, 15, in school; Albert, 13, in school; Dora, 10, in school; Edward, 6, in school; Bircha, 4; and Thomas, an infant. NOTE: Harrison’s wife Mary Ann (Congrove) died in 1880, before this Census was taken. She died about three months after her last child, Thomas, was born. Living nearby was the George Warren Congrove family. George was first cousin to Mary Ann Congrove. [2]

  • Albert married Mary Lovina Thompson. Albert died, aged 42, in Harrison County, Ohio on 24 July 1909, and is buried in Reedsville Cemetery, Meigs, Ohio. [3]

Albert suffered from mitral stenosis for a year. He was married, and a merchant, 42 years old, when he died on 24 July 1909 in Green, Harrison, Ohio. [4]
