"COLUMBUS (UPI) - The state education department has named Louise B. Fuller, 52, Ohio Teacher of the Year for 1977.
"Mrs. Fuller has taught reading at Superior Elementary School in East Cleveland for the past five years. Before that she was a fifth grade teacher and substitute in East Cleveland.
"The state honor qualifies her as a candidate in America's 1977 Teacher of the Year contest, sponsored by the council of Chief State School Officers, Encyclopaedia Brittanica and the Ladies Home Journal.
"An education department committee singled out Mrs. Fuller, a 13-year teaching veteran from nominees submitted by each district in the state on the basis of statements by fellow teachers, administrators, parents and students."[1]

"Realizing that working with children was her goal, Mrs. Fuller enrolled in Case Western Reserve's Graduate School in 1959, where she earned a master's degree in elementary education.
"Chosen from more than 100 nominees she received a special $2000 Master Teacher Award last May from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation to pursue further study."[3]

FULLER LOUISE BARNHART FULLER, 86. Beloved wife of the late Robert W. Fuller; loving mother of Daniel (Christine) Fuller, Thomas (Kathryn) Fuller and Duncan Fuller; grandmother of Scott and Amy Fuller, Alice, Anne and Claire Fuller; sister of the late George Ford and Kay Schnackel. Memorial Services 11:00 AM, April 24, 2010, at Forest HIll Presbyterian Church, 3031 Monticello Blvd., Cleveland Hts, 44118. Louise was a long time member of Forest Hill Presbyterian Church. She is a retired teacher from the East Cleveland School District, after 20 years of service, where she was awarded Ohio Teacher of the year in 1977. Donations to Forest Hill Presbyterian Church.[4]
Memorial
Louise Barnhart "Barney" Fuller grew up partly in a tent at Euclid Beach Park during the Depression. She became Ohio's teacher of the year.
Fuller died Jan. 6 at her home in Willougby at age 86.
She was born in Chicago to a leading prosecutor who died during the daughter's infancy.
She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Western Reserve University and taught for 20 years in East Cleveland public schools, mostly Prospect Elementary and Superior Elementary. She led a homeroom, then taught remedial reading and special education.
"A good sense of humor is a must," Fuller told The Plain Dealer in 1976, when honored by the Ohio Department of Education.
She also won a Jennings scholarship to study in England.[5]
