The Barnum Family, 1517-1904' gives a birth date of 17 Dec 1464, an obvious typographical error; 'The Barnum Family, 1350-1907' provides a date of 17 Dec 1764.[1]
The Genealogical Record of the Barnum Family calls him Matthew Starr Barnum. He was married to both Mary Starr and Rhoda Starr, his grandmother was Mehetabel Starr and he had a son named Matthew Starr Barnum. According to Burgess Starr, he was a farmer in Bethel, Connecticut and "was drowned on his way to church in D." (probably Danbury) in February 1821.
According to the Genealogical & Family History of Southern New York, Matthew, son of Matthew and Jane (Dibble) Barnum, resided in Bethel, and married Rhoda Star. His property was valued in the grand list of 1793 at £37, 2s, 6p.
