Ella Jane Hay Barnwell was born on December 11, 1856 to Edward Barnwell and Sarah Lee in Georgia.[1]
On the 1860 US Census Ella is shown living in the 9th District Georgia Militia, Effingham, Georgia in the household of her father Edward Barnwell along with her mother Sarah Lee, her brother James Hazard Cuthbert Barnwell , her brother Edward Wigg Barnwell, her sister Missouri Barnwell, her brother Robert Barnwell, her sister Mary E Barnwell, her brother William Bernice Barnwell, her sister Sara Ann Barnwell, and her brother Nathaniel Lee Barnwell.[2]
On March 19, 1876 Ella married James Bennett Effingham, Georgia, United States.[3]
In about 1875 Ella and James had their ***** child, a daughter, Cora Bennett in Georgia.[4]
In about 1877 Ella and James had their ***** child, a daughter, Sarah (or Sadie) Barnwell in Georgia (or New York.)[4][5]
On February 9, 1878 Ella and James had their ****** child, a daughter, Maud Elizabeth Bennett in Savannah, Georgia.[6]Maud was christened on January 27, 1884 at St Pauls Episcopal in Savannah, Georgia.[7]
On the 1880 US Census Ella is found living in Savannah, Chatham, Georgia with her husband James Bennett, their daughter Cora Bennett, their daughter Sarah Bennett, their daughter Maud Bennett, and Ella's brother Nathaniel Lee Barnwell.[4]
On *********** Ella and James had their ***** child, a daughter, Ella Jane Hay Barnwell Bennett.[8] Ella was christened at St Pauls Episcopal in Savannah, Georgia on August 25, 1884.[9]
In November of 1885 Ella and James had their ***** child, a son, John B Bennett in Georgia.[5]
In July of 1890 Ella and James had their ***** child, a son, Edgar H Bennett in Georgia.[5]
On the 1900 US Census Ella is listed as a widow and is shown living in Militia District 4 Savannah city Ward Davis, Chatham, Georgia along with her daughter Sadie R Bennet (possibly same as Sarah in 1880 census[10]), her daughter Maud E Bennett, her son John B Bennett, and her son Edgar H Bennett.[5]
Ella passed away on February 18, 1909 in Camden County, Georgia and was laid to rest at Laurel Grove Cemetery North in Savannah, Georgia.[11]
