Mary Barr was born in about 1832 in Manchester. She was the daughter of John Barr. She had an older sister Jane and an older brother William.
Her brother John Barr was born in about 1838 in Liverpool.
Her brother Samuel Barr was born in 1840 in Liverpool. His birth was registered in the second quarter of the year, and his mother's maiden name given as Jones.
Mary married Thomas Roughley on 4 Nov 1855 at St Nicholas' Church in Sutton, Lancashire. Both were of full age (21 or more) and living in Sutton; neither had been married before. Thomas was a labourer. Their fathers were named as Peter Roughley (labourer) and John Barr (labourer). The witnesses were George Burkhell and Mary Roughley.
On 22 Nov 1857, Thomas and Mary were the two witnesses at the marriage of Mary's brother William at Farnworth Chapel of Ease.
