I am and will forever be a grandma's girl. My grandmother Violetter Anderson VanHoose was bigger than life itself. She was born in Indian Creek, Bullock County, Alabama. When I was 22 I decided to ask her how many siblings she had. She told the story "They say papa had 23 kids. He bought 7 marriage licenses but only married 6 times." As for her mother, she told me they part Creek Indians, and her mother's full name was "Emma Marlila Lusena Lusana Luvana Elizabeth Sashalee Anderson". She said they were related to the McGrady's, Cope's, Birds, and Mason in the area. That was back in 1989 and I've been trying to prove the oral accounts of her family ever since.
Because of my passion and love for my grandmother, I have used her knowledge and wisdom to launch many entrepreneurial projects. I've published books on Amazon titled
I turned my books into stage plays which can be viewed on my youtube channel
and in 2022 during the COVID19 pandemic, I turned my published work We Are Family Anderson/Whighams into a documentary titled Look Where He Brought Me From which can be seen on Amazon.
While working on the documentary, I created 2 videos which can be found on my Youtube Channel to help other researching understand what it can take to endeavor in this never ending journey of finding your ancestors.
I am excited about this project because it aligns with my passion to find my lost ancestors due to slavery which I have been working on since 2019. I wrote a grant to fund my endeavors to gather volunteers for such an initiative and when I didn't get the grant, I decided to do the work on my own. I have helped many others connect and find their lost ancestors and it is my prayer to find as many cousins and family as possible. This is what my grandmother and aunt would want!
Your work is so appreciated!
