Michael was born in 1853. He is the son of Patrick Barrett and Mary Doolan.^[1][2][3]

He married Tara Broadhead in Goulburn in 1887.^[4]

Michael passed away in April 1933 at Mudgee. ^[5]

MR. M. BARRETT The death occurred in Mudgee, of Mr. Michael Barrett, on Thursday last; at the age of 79. Mr. Barrett was 'born at Lower Boro, being the son of the late Mary and Patrick Bar rett, who were amongst the pioneer. families of that and the Braidwood districts, they having settled there in the early 'forties. Mr. Barrett and family, for a number of years, lived it 'Lansdowne, .Goulburn, and left Goulburn for Mudgee about' 18 years ago. He took up .dairying .at Spring Flat, but. 'retired ' from, active, work about- five years ' ago and -lived in Mudgee. '..He leaves a -widow,; two sons and a daughter. The sons -are Messrs. F. Barrett, of' Minfimine, bul gonig, and Reginald, :of Stinnysi!h.t Brisbane. The daughter is Mrs. Trn man, wife of Wellington's. Town Clerk. " The body was taken to' St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Friday, where a Requiem' Mass was held by the Rev. Monsignor Flanagan, and afterwards conveyed to the general cemetery, where . the. remains were interred in' the R.C. portion, the- Mon signor again officiating. Mrs. Catherine Fortescue; whose death occurred here recently, was a sister. The Mudgee Mail,, referring to Mr.' Barrett's death, says: "Though of a quiet and unassuming nature, he was possessed of characteristic Irish' wit, and it was' always a pleasure.to. spend a few minutes in. conversation with him, especially in his description of early happenings:, He gained -'a very .large circle of friends, and the news of his death after a short illness, came as a shock to them."
