Moses was the first born son and 4th child of Daniel Barrett and Rebekah Bosworth Barrett. He was born in Montgomery, Mass on June 9, 1788. [1]
He was most likely named after his father's brother Moses Barrett, whom Daniel fought alongside under George Washington in the American Revolution. His uncle Moses Barrett was killed in action in the war at White Plains, VA.
He also carried the name of his grandfather the missionary Moses Barrett who died in London of sickness, when he went to ask Parliament for more funding for reaching the Indians with the gospel of Jesus Christ.[2]
