He died of cholera around 1830 near New Orleans, LA while working on the Mississippi River. He was buried on the banks of the Mississippi River near New Orleans.[2]
Betsy remarried after his death to Cosby Cox on 7 Feb 1836 and lived out her years in Rutherford County, TN.
