Biography

John Barriball lived in Waiuku, Auckland, New Zealand.

John Barriball is an Anzac who served in World War One.

John was born in December 1895. He was the son of Joseph Barriball and Eliza Eddy.

John served in World War I. His pre-war occupation was clerk. John's service number was 20954. He was a Trooper in the 16th Reinforcements, New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade and set sail for Egypt in 1916.

His military file shows he suffered from a condition - albumenuna - which was contracted while in service and considered to be a permanent condition and likely somewhat to affect his ability to work in civilian life. Later in his file his condition is described as nephritis. The cause of his infection was unknown but was contracted in Palestine.

In 1923 he married Lilian Grace Renwick. John went into finance and became a bank manager.

He passed away in 1974. At the time of his death his residence was recorded as 12 Brightside Road, Epsom (in Auckland). He was 78 years old. He was survived by his wife Lillian and children Donald and Margaret. Their son Donald later died in 2000.

John Leslie Barriball was cremated at Waikumete Cemetery on 27 February 1974 and his ashes were then buried at Waiuku Cemetery. No plot number is recorded on the Council online database.
