Biography

Marie Catherine Barrieau was born about 1687 in Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Nicolas Barrieau and Martine Hébert.[1]. The family lived in Port Royal in 1686, though we don't know when they moved to Les Mines where they were found in 1693.

Marie (18) married Jean Baptiste Bourg (21) (born in Port-Royal, Acadie) in 1706 in Acadie.

Their known children were:

  1. Jean Bourg (about 1707 – Apr 3 1759)
  2. Alexandre Bourg (Jan 15 1709 – about 1759)
  3. Joseph Bourg (about 1711 – Dec 1758)
  4. Marie Bourg (about 1712 – before Nov 25 1751)
  5. Ursule Bourg (about 1714 – Feb 20 1759)
  6. François Bourg (about 1717 – about 1758)

Marie died about 1718 in Acadie, Colony of Nouvelle-France, aged about 30.

If two daughters named Marie were born in 1683 and 1684 to Nicolas Barrieau and Martine Hebert, why is there only one Marie in the 1686 census?

This Marie Catherine Barrieau (abt.1683-abt.1718) is not in the census but Marie Francoise is listed, or should it be the other way around? Further research from the source http://www.nosorigines.qc.ca/GenealogieQuebec.aspx?genealogy=Marie_Beriault&pid=358377&lng=en shows that she was born in 1687. This explains it and the birthdate on this profile should be 1687 and not 1683.

Thank you, Ralph for finding that. Her birthdate according to Stephen White, is 1687. I changed it, gave her a regular biography, and added the detail from White's entry for her. Cindy
