About 1904. George was "adopted" by Lilly McKenzie about age 7, and returned to mother Daisy in Cos Cob, Connecticut about age 14. George kept the last name McKenzie.[11]

1918, Mar 28. Sergeant George K. McKenzie departed New York, New York for France with Battery F, 56th Artillery Regiment, Coast Artillery Corps. Service Number: 624492; Notify in Case of Emergency: Daisy Galvin, mother; Address: Sinoway Park, Cos Cob, Conn.[12]

The 56th Arty arrived Brest 4-2-18 and moved to Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme) where it trained with French artillery until 7-28-18. The regiment moved to Charly (Aisne) and operated with III Corps, First U.S. Army, on the Western Front until 11-11-18. The 56th Arty served in the Aisne-Marne operations in August 1918; the Defensive Sector (Champagne) August 1918; Oise- Aisne Operations of August-September and the Meuse-Argonne Operations of September-November 1918. When the regiment returned to the U.S. 1-18-19, NG and NA personnel were discharged at Ft. Schuyler.
The 56th Arty was one of six tractor-drawn artillery regiments retained active for training purposes following WWI. . . . [13]

Putnam Ave, Greenwich, Conn.; Height: 5'-5"; Weight: 150; Hair: blonde; Eyes: blue; Complexion: light; Other physical characteristics: scars under chin, and right cheek, and under right thumb. Dated 27 April 1942, Greenwich, Conn.[8]

1971, Mar 17. Death of George Kenneth McKenzie in the Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Residence at death was 96 View St., Byram in Greenwich. George was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich on 19 March.[5][7]

George K. McKenzie, 74, of 96 View St., Byram, owner of the first diner in Greenwich, died Wednesday in Greenwich Hospital.
Born in New Haven, Nov. 19, 1896, he was a veteran of World War I, received a Purple Heart, and was past president of the Old 12th Co. of Greenwich.
He owned Greenwich's first diner, the Courtley Diner, and was known in the area as "Mack." After selling his business in 1947 he was employed by the American Cyanamid Co. until his retirement in 1965.
Predeceased by his wife, Helen Deady McKenzie, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Teufel of Greenwich; three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Burnes of Cos Cob, and Mrs. Ann Warnke and Mrs. Daisy Santini, both of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two brothers, Clarence Galvin of Englewood, Fla. and John Galvin of Sun City, Ariz., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the Russell J. Shaw Funeral Home, 342 Westchester Ave, Port Chester, then to The Sacred Heart Church in Byram for requiem mass at 9. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Greenwich.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m.[10]
