Biography

American Revolution Veterans NSSAR Patriot P-109854, Revolutionary War Graves Register. Clovis H. Brakebill, compiler. 672pp. SAR. 1993. Also SAR Revolutionary War Graves Register CD. Progeny Publishing Co: Buffalo, NY. 1998

Birth

Lt. Thomas Barrows was born on 13 September 1716 in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts to Robert Barrows Jr. (8 November 1689 - 17 Aug 1779) and Bethia Ford (16 March 1687 - 12 November 1773). https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-8979-7FHY?i=39&wc=Q4D4-4WG%3A353350201%2C353482701%2C353484001&cc=2061550. In most of the literature Lt. Thomas is called 2nd, but it isn't because he is a Jr. to his father. It is probably because there is another Thomas Barrows (14 February 1697-28 October 1776), brother to Robert Barrows (1689-1779), married to Esther Hall, who was the first Barrows in Mansfield in 1720. This was probably the way the locals kept uncle and nephew recognizable during their time. Lt. Barrows and his immediate family also appear in Mansfield in about 1720.

Have been attempting to get the categorizations right for Thomas Barrows' Revolutionary War service. I have not yet been able to locate information that he was a Lieutenant, but have not changed that rank. Will keep looking. I edited the sticker to reflect what I do have for certain, that he was in Captain Gallup's company at the battle of White Plains. Have not been able to find documentation yet for his participation at Saratoga. I am reluctant to change the information that a previous manager put in about it, so will leave it while I continue searching. His brother Robert Barrows is my 7th Great-Grandfather. I want to do right by him because of that, and because of my ten many-times-great grandfathers who served in the American Revolution, including 4th Great-Grandfather John B Finster Sr, who fought at the Battle of Oriskany.

Im not sure if this direct link will work, and I can't exactly read all of it, but, the DAR has a "Patriot Record Index" showing this record for him : https://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/image_viewer/?PT1=11&PT2=13283281&PT3=1801958&PT4=100&PT6=1500&PT7=0&PT8=&PT9=&PT10=&PT12=No

Alternatively, from the main page, https://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search/?Tab_ID=14&Tab_ID_Sub=3 you should be able to search by name. I'm not sure if there is an answer in there, but I figured Id share in case you hadn't seen this.

Went to both placers, struggled through the handwritten letter, which was informative, but didn't mention his rank. The other source had his name, but not much more. However...since these would be the places one would expect to find info on his rank, and since they don't mention it, I am going to go with how the DAR lists him. Sorry Thomas, to bust you from Lieutenant to Corporal, but that's what the available evidence says. Don't feel too bad. I've been a Lieutenant ( before I was a Captain), and trust me, they don't get as much respect as Corporals!

Hi, adopted because he's an 8th great-uncle and because the profile showed up as orphaned. I intend to respect the request made in Darlene(Scott) Kerr's comment, but I keep getting suggestion 885 Using Top Level category Help (Difficulty: Advanced), with reference to "American Revolution". The only place I find that phrase, outside of sources referencing Sons of the American Revolution, is where it says "American Revolution Veterans", of which the change log says, for 2017, "15:12: EditBot WikiTree edited the Biography for Thomas Barrows (1716-1802). (Renaming category: American Revolution Veterans) [Thank EditBot for this]" Not sure where to go with the suggestion???

Please do not change the placement of the reference and footnote notations. 1/2 of the census data and other is lost if you do. No rule that I know of that says you have to have no space between "Sources" and References or can't have footnotes. Thank you.
