Biography

George Latta was born on 28 Nov 1884 in New York, probably in Monroe County. His parents were William Newkirk Barrus and Flora Louis Latta.

His mother died when he was about 3 years old, and his father died when he was 10. He was living with his maternal grandmother, Frances Latta, in 1900.^[1] Where were his siblings?

George married Gertrude Emily Schneider on 10 Feb 1917 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. His occupation appears to be "forensic pathalogist," but it's spelled poorly and hard to read.^[2]

Their son Robert was born in New Hampshire almost a year after they married, and in 1920, they were living in Ross County, Ohio where George was working as the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce in Chillicothe, Ohio. This census gives Robert's place of birth as New Hampshire.^[3] Information in Robert's biography says that his parents lived apart while he was growing up, but they were both dedicated to raising him,^[4] and when George died from a stroke on 22 Aug 1971, his death record indicated that he was divorced. At that time he was living in the Valley of the Moon Rest Home in Burnsville, Yancy County, North Carolina. His death record lists the School of Medicine at Duke University as his burial place, meaning he probably donated his body to science.^[5] His memorial at Find-a-Grave does not give a burial location.^[6]
