Biography

ROBERT MERCER BARRY was born to William and Elizabeth (Mercer) Barry in 1880. The family resided in Franklin, Georgia. He had two brothers James and William Barry.

Robert met and later married Anastasha (Morris) Barry in Feb 1823. The couple had seven children together, including Elizabeth and John Barry mentioned in the notes below. The Barry family resided in Blount County, Alabama.

Robert Mercer Barry passed away April 20, 1883 in Hendrick, Blount, Alabama. He was 83 years old.

• In a letter from James Robert McClung, Elizabeth's Tapp Barry's grandson, to his cousin Charles McClung, dated January 17, 1955, he states that she was the daughter of Robert Mercer Barry, that her brother was John Barry and her sister was Lucendy Huffman. This confirms her mother's name as Anastatia Morris. The only way her mother could be named Lingo is if she had two names, a white name and a Cherokee name, with Lingo being her Cherokee name. Her brother John M. Barry had a granddaughter name Mollie Lingo Clegg.
