Biography

John Barry is born in November 1875 in Ireland[1], the son of Thomas Barry and Hannah Carroll.[2]

In the 1900 federal census of Rockingham town, Bellows Falls village, in Windham county, Vermont, taken 14 June, John Barry appears as one of two boarders living with Patrick Leehy and his family at Church Place. John was born in November 1875. He is 24, unmarried, born in Ireland. He immigrated in 1898. John works for the railroad as a section hand. Patrick, with whom he lives, immigrated in 1894 and is a laborer for a sulphite mill. [1]

John marries Julia Moriarty on 2 June 1903 in Vermont. John is 27 (b. 1876), born in Ireland. He lives in Rockingham and is a paper maker by occupation. This is his first marriage.[2]

Julia is the daughter of Michael Moriarty and Hannah Harty. She is 23 (b. 1880) when she marries John. She was born in Ireland. This is her first marriage. They are married by a Catholic priest in Rockingham, VT.[3]

John and Julia have nine known children: Hannah (1904), Catherine Florence (1905), twins Margaret Elizabeth and Thomas Francis (1908), Mary (1909), John Patrick (1911), Eugene Michael (1913), William Joseph (1916), and Esther (1918).

Hannah is born 4 April 1904 in Rockingham, Windham, VT. She is the daughter of John J. Barry, 28 (b. 1876), and Julia Moriarty, 24 (b. 1880). Her father is a paper maker. Her parents were both born in Ireland. Her mother lives in Bellows Falls, VT.[4]

Catharine Florence Barry is born 26 June 1905 in Rockingham. Julia’s second child. Julia is 25, John is 28, a paper maker.[5]

Margaret Elizabeth Barry is born 22 May 1908 in Rockingham. Her parents’ third child. She is a twin.[6]

Thomas Francis Barry is his mother’s fourth child, twin of Margaret Elizabeth, born 22 May 1908 in Rockingham.[7]

Mary Barry is born 30 August 1909 in Vermont. She is the daughter of John Barry and Julia Moriarty. She is Julia’s fifth child. Julia is 28 and John, a paper maker, is 33.[8]

John Patrick Barry is born 23 February 1911 in Rockingham, Vermont. He is the son of John Barry and Julia Moriarty. He is Julia’s sixth child. Julia, 31, born in Ireland, lives in Bellows Falls. John, 37, also born in Ireland, a paper maker.[9]

Eugene Michael Barry is born 24 October 1913 in Rockingham, Vermont, the son of John Barry, 39, and Julia Moriarty, 33. He is Julia’s seventh child. John is a laborer.[10]

William Joseph Barry is born 12 February 1916 in Rockingham, VT. He is his mother’s eighth child.[11]

John Barry and Julia Moriarty have a daughter on 23 March 1918 in Vermont. It is Julia’s ninth child. Julia, 40, is from Ireland and lives in Bellows Falls. John, 45, also born in Ireland, is an employee at Vermont Farm Machine Co. The card is stamped with the town name, Rockingham.[12] Her name does not appear, but the date corresponds to Esther's, on the record of her death.

Margaret Elizabeth Barry dies on 11 March 1929 in Rockingham.[13]

Her twin, Thomas Francis, marries Ruth Elizabeth Leonard on 11 April 1929 in Rockingham.[14]

Ruth and Thomas are both 21 when they marry. She is the daughter of Wallace Leonard and Beatrice Wellington.[15]

William marries Geneva "Genny" Belaski on 31 October 1935 in Rockingham, VT.[16]

John Patrick Barry, son of John J. Barry and Julia Moriarty, marries Conradine Josephine Bushway on 6 April 1937 in Rockingham, VT. John Patrick lives at 1 Taylor St, Bellows Falls. He is 26, a paper maker. It is his first marriage. [17]

John P. Barry dies 14 November 1959 in Bellows Falls, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital from rheumatic heart disease. He was born 22 February 1911. He is a widower. Elizabeth Barry is the informant.[18]

William J. dies on 30 January 1969.[19]

Thomas F. Barry dies 29 July 1974 in Bellows Falls. He was born 22 May 1908 in Bellows Falls. He dies at 1 Taylor St, in Bellows Falls. He is divorced. Thomas’s SSN is 001-07-3060. He is retired from J & L Machine Co. Thomas died from acute heart standstill due to coronary heart disease and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with chronic alcoholism contributing to his death. He is buried in St. Charles Cemetery.[20]

Esther J. Barry, daughter of John J. Barry and Julia Moriarty, dies in Springfield Hospital, in Springfield, Windsor, VT on 12 July 1995. Esther was born 23 March 1918 in Bellows Falls, VT. She is 77 at death. Her SSN is 008-10-4298. HEr last address was 1 Taylor St. She never married. She was an owner-operator of a retail dress shop. Esther died of Ischemic brain damage due to a cardiopulmonary arrest, suffered five days previously, which resulted from her underlying asthma and hypertension.[21]
