Biography

Isaie (Zeb) Barré is the son of Jean Baptiste Barré (John Borrie) and Elisa Baudin (Louise Beaudin).

Born 26 June 1862, he was baptized in Sherrington (Canada East) on 30 June. His godparents were Isaie Tetreau and Mathilda Baudin.[1][2]

After the birth of his sister Rosalie his family moved to New York (probably Moore's Fork (Mooers), around 1879).

Isaïe (known as Zeb in the US) married with Julie Hébert (Julia Abaire) probably in New York in 1880 or 1881 (missing record). They were living in Sciota, N.Y. when they had their first son Isaïe ; Born on 5 June 1882, he was nevertheless baptised in Lacolle, Québec on 27 August.

Two other children were born in New York before the family moved back to Canada : Agnès (Aggie - 1884) and Michael (1886). Then George, like Isaïe previously, born in Sciota,, N.Y. on October, was baptised in Saint-Cyprien-de-Léry, Québec in December 1888.

In the 1891 census of Canada Zedda Bara (age 28), his wife Julia (32) and their four children were in Hemmingford, Quebec, His brother Michael (17) was living with them.[3]

The family lived for a while in Canada : Alfred was born in Hemmingford in late 1891 (after the census). Then came Frederic in 1893 and Laura in 1895 (both baptised in Lacolle), Henri in 1897 and Delia in 1900 (back in Hemmingford).

In 1900 census a certain Zebb Boryea, single, age 38 born on Oct 1862 in New York from French Canadian parents (line 89) is a boarder with Charles Selkirck family in Duane Township, N.Y.. But this could be a different person.[4]

Before 1903's birth of Annie, their last child, the family was back in the States.

In 1910 census, Jeda Berry, 49, lives in Altona, Clinton, N.Y. with his wife Julia (54) and 3 children : Henry (12), Delia (10) and Annie (7). Born in Canada he came to USA in 1899. Julia says that all of her 10 children are alive.[5]

In the 1925 census Zeb Barry (age 63) is the head of household in Chazy, Clinton. He lives alone with his wife Julian (66) who was born in the USA. He has been in the USA for 60 years.[6]

In 1930 census, Zeb Berry, 70, lives in Chazy, Clinton, N.Y. alone with his wife Julia (74). Born in Canada he came to USA in 1870.[7]

In 1931, Zeb Borry of West Chazy, N. Y. is mentionned in his brother Henry's obit.

Zeb Barre passed away in Chazy, Clinton, New York on 26 Nov 1933.[8]

Children

In 1910 census, Julia says that all of her 10 children are alive.

  1. Isaïe Barré
  2. Agnès Barré
  3. Michael Barré
  4. Joseph Georges Barré
  5. Marie Alfred Barré
  6. Frédéric Barré
  7. Marie Laura Barré
  8. Joseph Henri Barré
  9. Marie Délia Barré
  10. Annie Barré

Notes

Sciota is on road 22, just in between Mooers and West Chazy. Mooers is just South of Hemingford, Quebec. Isaïe spent his entire life at less than 12 miles from the border.

Isaïe used the name "Zeb" (many variations) when he was in the States (except for 1891 Canadian census) reverting to Isaïe Barré in French Canada. This make them look as been brothers.

We can see they are the same person by comparing acts that include his wife.

One example is his daughter Laura's baptism where her parents are Isaie Barré and Julie Hébert and her marriage where they are Zeb Barria and Julia Hebert.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Zeb by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line. Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Zeb:

After revision of all the sources (including the 19 on his familySearch profile), I still dont know where the name "Eusebe" comes from.

Maybe he never was called "Eusebe".

OK I completed the merge, BUT -- With the identity mystery solved, the existing research notes should be be replaced with a simple summary of why Isaie and Zeb are the same person (no more than 1-3 sentences) and purge all the "notepad" working notes stuff.

Could we, please, proceed with the merge ? It would be easier to clean if it was merged.

Barré-424 and Barré-415 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth date and place, same wife : Julia Abaire (pronounced Hey-Bear) wife of Zeb is Julie Hébert (same with a french R - the T is mute) wife of Isaie. Isaie and Zeb are the same person.

Be carefull here, Alice Eva (Borry) Morrill, Arthur Henry Borry and Gladys May (Borry) Christie are NOT the children of Isaie but of Henry.

Julia Abaire (pronounced Hey-Bear) wife of Zeb is in fact Julie Hébert (same with a french R - the T is mute) wife of Isaie. Isaie and Zeb are the same person). Isaie should be merge with Eusebe (Zeb).

Do you have a source showing that is first name is Eusébe (or Eusèbe) ? Could it be "Zebulon" ?

Can we find the marriage of Isaie Barré & Julie Hébert in New York States around 1880-1881 ?

I am still trying to put some order into everything ...

Since most of the stuff here is about "Henry" and not Isaie, and since we still dont know if Henry will end up being Emery or Isaie or Henry (or ?), My guess is : we should put everything named Henry under Henry (Barré) Borry (1860-1931) profile, separating USA profile from Canadian profile. And keeping hypothesis separate from proven facts. If you agree I'll proceed ...

I agree until definite makes sense. Thank you

Borry-17 and Barré-415 appear to represent the same person because: Same person same dates same parents and family group

Ready to merge this with Isaie (Barré) Borry (1862-1931).

Same process : Barre-414 has the LNAB and data while this one as the bio. Here again I would prefer to display to preferred name instead of the formal name ... but the rules are the rules.
