Matthew was christened on 25 March 1590 at Halifax, Yorkshire.
Child: Michael Barstow bpt 17 Nov 1600, Shelf, Halifax, Yorkshire.
It is believed by several researchers that Matthew was the father of Michael, William, George and John Barstow, immigrants to New England. This is based on one found baptism for Michael Barstow. But there are other likely candidates.
"Bond found the baptism at Shelf, Halifax, Yorkshire, 17 Nov 1600, of Michael Barstow, son of Matthew Barstow [Bond 677]; Matthew Wood found the baptism at Halifax, 6 Jan 1600/1, of Michael Barstow, son of Michael Barstow of Northowram [NYGBR 121:98]. Given the size of this parish and the multiplicity of Barstow families therein, further research needs to be undertaken before we can identify the parents of Michael Barstow and his brothers." There are also baptisms of Michaels (son of Michael) on 17 Feb 1599 and 18 Jan 1600 at St. john the Baptist in Halifax.
Further Susan Perry, wife of William Perry, was at one time speculated to be a sister of Michael Barstow. She is not a Barstow at all but a Carver instead.
