Biography

Ivar was born in 1925. He was the son of Ivar Bartell and Ida Ellison. His middle name is Junior. His unusual first name and his fathers first names have also been given as Ivan and Ivor in some records.

He was baptized 1 Nov 1925.^[1]

Junior served in the US Army during WW-II.

About 1943 he married Irene Ruth Goldstein and they had a son, Gary.

He then married Lucille Kaster in 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa.

He died in 1996 and is buried in the Cedar City Cemetery, Austin, Mower County, Minnesota.^[2]

AUSTIN -- The funeral for Ivar "Bill" Bartell will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with the Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Burial will be in Cedar City Cemetery in rural Austin. Mr. Bartell, 71, of 809 6th Ave. S.E., died Thursday (Dec. 12, 1996) at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.

He was born July 4, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa. On Jan. 24, 1951, he married Lucille Kaster in Des Moines, Iowa. She survives. A veteran of World War II, he worked as a dry cleaner in the Austin area for 10 years.

Survivors include a son, Rodney Nelson of Austin; three daughters, Phyllis (Mrs. Kenneth) Mason of Hasting, Minn., Sharon (Mrs. Richard) Nelson of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Marlene Weeks of St. Cloud, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth of Minnesota; and a sister, Barbara Bartell of Dayton, Ohio.

Friends may call an hour before the service Monday at the funeral home. There will be no reviewal.[sic]^[3]

Research Note

I have two marriage record's. Original: January 4, 1951 Pierre, South Dakota and a copy from Polk County,Iowa- date of marriage January 23,1951.I have no idea why, however they never had any children together. Lucille has a total of 4 children and Ivar (Bill) had one son, Gary (now deceased) from prior marriage to Irene Ruth Bartell.^[4]
