Biography

As far as can be proven, the tribe of Barth is, in contrast to the tribe Gerard = Schirra, a local family. The places of residence are given as Löstern / Oberlöstern (parish of Wadern), Gehweiler (parish of Wadrill), Lockweiler and Kastel. According to the respective occupations, the "Barth" were self-employed farmers (not day labourers) and craftsmen (blacksmiths in agricultural tool making and horseshoeing). The spelling of the surname, some of which was "Barthen ", has solidified into "Barth "in later generations.

In the 11th generation, the oldest Barth family can be found in the church records is documented. It was Matthias Barth from Löstern (later Oberlöstern). He was born there around 1630. His wife Elisabeth, née Langen, daughter of Hans Langenm, was born about 1630 - 1635 in Otzenhausen.
