Henry was a twin brother to Herbert Francis "Hap" Bartholomew who died in 1970. Henry's father died of cancer when he was only 48 years old. Henry's mother died of breast cancer at 50 years of age. The youngest three children: Hap, Henry and Katherine were sent to an orphanage but ran away and lived with older sister Gertrude who lived in Colorado.
