William was born in 1835 to John Bartholomew and Anna Smith. He married Aurinda Church, daughter of John and Lydia Church, before 1871. He died in 1915 and is buried with his wife in Vanessa Cemetery (Vanessa, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada).
