Biography

James Eric (known as Eric) was born in Maryborough on 2 Jun 1896. ^[1] He was the only child of John Bartholomew, a draper and Christina Binnie. The family lived in Maryborough until about 1900 but they then travelled for a few years making at least 2 trips to London, one in 1904 via New York ^[2] and then in late 1906. ^[3] They may have stayed in England for a while making a return journey in Jul 1908. ^[4]

Once back, they lived in Toorak, Victoria for a few years ^[5] then briefly in Canterbury Road, Mitcham ^[6] before settling at 125 Booran Road, Caulfield, Victoria. ^[5] This would be the main family residence for most of his life but they lived temporarily at other addresses for a year or two before returning there. He & his mother spend a couple of years 1921-1923 at Port Nepean Road, Aspendale ^[5] before returning once again to Booran Road.

In 1925, Eric married Madeline McConville. ^[7] and they had at least one son. Again, Eric lives primarily at Booran Road ^[8] but briefly at alternate properties. In 1931 he is at Moonya Road, Carnegie. ^[5] He was employed in his younger days as a clerk but latterly he was described as an investor. ^[6]

Eric died on 17 Apr 1975 in Caulfield, Victoria. ^{[9] [10]}
