He lived in Dodge County, Minnesota until about 1918 when the family moved to Cloverland Township in Douglas County, Wisconsin (was listed as Brule Township in the 1920 Census).
There he married his first wife Ethel Oberg about 1926.
Emerson and Ethel had two children, Wallace in 1927 and Estella in 1930 [2]. During this period Emerson was employed as a farm laborer and part time lumberjack.
Estella died in the fall of 1930 and Emerson and Ethel were divorced shortly there after.
In 1936 Emerson moved to International Falls, Koochiching, Minnesota where he initially worked in logging camps and later at the wood processing plant MANDO, which became in later years Boise Cascade Paper.
On February 22,1940 Emerson married Gladys Forsythe in International Fall [3] while he continued to work at MANDO.
Emerson and Gladys had two children, Judy in 1952 and Freddy in 1955. [4]
In the fall of 1960 Emerson was hunting moose when he fell threw the ice into the water. He ended up with Pneumonia and as there was at that time no Hospital in International Falls, he entered Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada where he died on Jan 29, 1961.[5]
Emerson was buried at the Forest Hill Cemetery Lot 78 Block 9,International Falls, Koochiching, Minnesota

Emerson Fred Bartholomew 57, Van Lynn Road, Int'l Falls died early Sunday
morning at La Verendrye Hospital in F.F. where he had been a patient for
about a week.
Mr. Bartholomew was born April 29, 1903 at Berne, MN. Lived at Brale Wisc.
for about 7 years. Moved to the Falls in 1936 from Dodge Center, MN. He
was employed by Mando in the insulite Dept for 23 years. He was married to
the former Gladys Forsythe on Feb 22, 1940 in the Falls. Survivors are his
wife and 2 sons; Fredrick at home and Wallace of Wentworth Wisc., a daughter
Judy at home and 2 brothers Lyle and Perry and 3 sisters; Mrs. Markie
Stafford, and Mrs. Clayton Countrymen of Mantorville, and Mrs. Chris Johnson
of Princeton, MN. and 4 grandchildren. Funeral in Mission Covenant Church
in the Falls. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery in the Falls.
