Martha Isabella Bartle (married name Benson) was born on 16 April 1889 in Stephenson St, Willington Quay, Northumberland, England. Martha's birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1889 in the Tynemouth district, Nothumberland, England.^[1] Martha, child of John Andrew Chadwick Bartle & Isabella Bartle, was baptised on 8 May 1889 in Howdon Pans, Northumberland, England.^[2] In the 1891 census Martha (age 1) was the daughter of John A C Bartle in Wallsend, Northumberland, England.^[3] In the 1901 census Martha (age 11) was the daughter of John A C Bartle in Willington, Northumberland, England.^[4]

Martha emigrated to Australia with her sister, Harriett Ann Bartle, on the Benalla in 1915.^[5]

She married Clarence Williams Benson on 10 March 1915 at 165 Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.^[6] Their daughter was:^{[citation needed]}

Martha died on 24 December 1972 at the Concord Repatriation Hospital in Concord, New South Wales, aged 83 years.^[7]
