Biography

John was born about 1640, and at some point in time, he became a resident of Killingworth, Connecticut. He was perhaps a brother of William Bartlett of Killingworth.

He is not the John Bartlett who married Sarah Aldrich.

His wife is sometimes said to be Sarah Knight, or just Mary (no maiden name).

He is possibly John Bartlett who died in 1721, in Woodbury, Connecticut (at age 80). The will of John Barlett of Woodbury, written 29 Jul 1721, only mentions a deceased daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Thomas Mallory, along with grandsons Aaron & John Mallory to get his estate. Land records: A Killingworth deed dated 05 May 1692 (Deed Book 2, page 2) shows Isaac Griswold sold land to John and William Bartlett of Killingworth, and just above that deed is another dated 20 December 1689, showing that William Palmer sold land to John and William Bartlett. A later Killingworth deed dated 17 August 1722 (Deed Book 3, page 123) shows John Bartlett of East Guilford (Madison) selling land to Janah Hand, and this deed was witnessed by Janah Meigs and John Doude (presumably John Doude Jr.).
