Biography

Franklin was the oldest of four children of Wilson and Sophia Pickler Bartlett.^[1] His father had three older children with his first wife who had died.^[2] Franklin was named for his maternal grandfather and his father. He grew up in Chamberlain, South Dakota where his father was a merchant.^[3][4] At age 19, when he registered for the draft during World War I, Frank was working in a wholesale grocery business.^[5]

Franklin was a chiropractor for over 67 years,^[6] most of the time in Chamberlain, except for a few years in Kimball, South Dakota.^[7] He married Audree Sturchler when he was 31 years old. They were the parents of five children.^[8]

Franklin died in Chamberlain at the age of 96.^[9]He is buried in Riverview Cemetery, Chamberlain.^[10]

Research Notes

On a family tree prepared by Franklin's son John, his middle name is identified as "Wilson," his father's given name.^[11] On his World War I draft registration, he signed his name as Frank Wallace Bartlett.^[12]
