Biography

Joel apparently was born in 1783 (the year that is on his gravestone). He passed away in 1822.

The following was published in the Middlesex Gazette, vol. 37, issue 1935, p. 4, 12 Dec 1822: By order of the Court of Probate for the district of Middletown, will be sold at Public Vendue, (if not previously disposed of at private sale,) so much of the real estate of Joel Bartlett, late of Chatham, deceased, as will raise the sum of seven hundred and eighty-four dollars and thirty-three cents. Said Vendue will be held at the late Dwelling-House, of the deceased, on Monday the 13th day of January next, one o'clock P.M. at the beat of drum. Betsey Bartlett ) Samuel Wilcox, Jr. ) Adm'rs Chatham, Dec. 16th, 1822.
