George Bartlett was born about 1841 in Strongsville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He was the son of Charles Oliver Bartlett and Mary Church. After his mother died, he lived with his grandparents, Samuel and Betsy Church, in Brunswick, Medina, Ohio.
When he was in his early twenties, he joined the Union Army of the Civil War. He died on 6 Aug 1862 at Malvern Hill, Charles City County, Virginia. He must have joined a Massachusetts company, which is where his grandfather was born. He was buried at Brecksville Cemetery in Brecksville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
