An old resident of Auckland, Mr. Charles Bartley died on Sunday, aged 70 year. He was a son of the late Mr. Robert Bartley of Devonport who came to Auckland in 1854 by the ship Joseph Fletcher and a brother of Mr. Clement Bartley of Auckland Savings Bank. Deceased spent his whole life in Auckland and had thus seen it grow from a very small town. He was a builder by trade and recognised aa one who took pride in turning out a pood job. Upon his marriage to a daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Gee, Mr. Bartley went to live in Richmond Road, Ponsonby, where he remained until the last few years, when he removed to Matai Road. Greenlane. Mrs. Bartley survives her husband. There is one son, also two married daughters. The funeral, which was private, took place at Waikumete this afternoon.
