"Dear Mama and Papa:

"Just a word to let you know that I expect to be discharged from the Army tomorrow. Sounds pretty good, Eh?

"I will stay in town for a day or two, and expect to reach home about the middle of next week. Will let you know definitely when I will arrive.

"This, you know, is "Mother's Day", and is observed all over the country. We are all urged to write a letter home today, so I think my little note is about as appropriate as anything.

"Expect to see you this week.

"Lovingly, /s/ Glenn"

Birth Record

The births of the five sons of John Thomas Barton and Effie Mae (Buhrman) Barton were recorded on a page of a family bible. The bible isn't specifically identified, and it's not clear who it belonged to, or who recorded the data, or whether the bible still exists in the possession of a family member. The page on which the births were recorded was copied and notarized (see "Family Bible Birth Record" under Images), and the notarized page is now in the possession of an anonymous family member.

All the records in this profile that include a birth date are consistent.

Miscellaneous

[Research Note: In the 1920s and early 1930s, Glenn researched the ancestry of the Barton and Buhrman families and compiled a fairly extensive set of genealogy notes. Most of his work is still in the possession of descendants, and a number of references to Genealogy notes of Samuel Glenn Barton can be found in the WikiTree profiles of various family members.]
