Hi Michael, I see you and Peggyl match my cousin Teresa Moore Petty on Gedmatch (A046595) Moore-17095. I am trying to find her grandmother who married my grandfather. Any insight would be helpful.

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

I have a very old Family Tree Maker and it did the same thing when I imported my profiles. As I work on different sections, I correct them, but I've been at WikiTree for over two years and there are still some with the first and middle name in the first name field. I imported before GEDMatches was introduced so I don't know how (or if) it handles first and middle names in the first name field. You'll run across profiles from others who've had the same problem. Eventually they get corrected, if not by you, by someone else. It's nice when someone else jumps in and helps. 8-)

Michael, first and last names are the most important. It's nice to have middle names and it helps in matching duplicates, but we're happy for any information you want to add. You're volunteering like most of us, so you decide how much data you want to supply beyond the most important: first and last names, birth and death dates (estimate if necessary) and places (when you have or can find them), and sources. You can work at your own pace so if you're working on a particular profile and happen to know the middle name, it would be nice to add it, but not mandatory.  :)

Hello Michael,

How are you doing? Hope you're enjoying our site.

Our vision is to build a collaborative tree. Please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile. Having dates and locations attached to every person assists in our mission as well.

Feel free to check out How To Use WikiTree. It's a great step-by-step guide.

Also Help Index with links to topics you may have questions on. Don't forget our G2G Forum where many of our generous members help each other out.

And of course, I'm here to help in any way Iā€™m able. Just ask!

Hey Michael,

You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.

If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top right, or head over to the G2G forum and take a minute to introduce yourself in the Tree House, you might also want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.

Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.

Welcome! Shirley

I'm a dedicated/obsessed researcher of my own and some friends' family histories. I'm also interested in extending what I know and preserving it beyond my own lifespan. I would like to become involved with this wiki and of course I agree with the mission and will abide by the rules.
