Research Notes
The children currently shown on this Profile are based on the following rationale. (Names are not shown for the 1830 and 1840 Census, listed are assumed children for each age category).
The 1830 Census shows Peter with one daughter under 5 - Selena.
The 1840 Census shows Peter with one son under 5 - Joseph, one son 5 thru 9 - Aaron, one daughter under 5 - Eliza, one daughter 5 thru 9 - Elizabeth and one daughter 10 thru 14 - Selena.
The 1850 Census indicates the children as shown above with three exceptions. Missing are Selena, married about 1846, and Sarah not born. There is a Celena, age 15, who could not have been with the family in 1840 as shown previously and is never shown again. She has been left off list until a source can add her to this family.
The 1860 Census indicates the children as shown above with the following exceptions: Missing are Aaron, Eliza and Martha who were married. Added were three individuals that do not show up before or after this Census. Samuel M., age 22, James M., age 18, and Rob M. age 10. It seems likely that these three are in-laws or nephews staying with the Barton's. The M. is probably the last name of these three. More research needs to be done.
The 1870 Census adds William, age 16, Catherine, age 3 and Eliza age 1. No other sources as to who they are. They are left off list until proved.
Most online trees list a Lydia L "Bobbie" Barton (1851–1900) as part of the family, there are no sources showing any connection other than last name and residing in Bosque County, Texas.
