Lucy was born in 1882. She passed away in 1961. During the years 1913 to 1915 Lucy was a nursemaid to the children of Prince Albert de Ligne who was Councillor to the Belgian Legation to the Hague. As such she travelled extensively in Holland and Belgium and Mike Thornley has many postcards and other memorabilia from Lucy from this time. She left the princes service in order to get married to Sam Thornley, much to her parents annoyance. Lucy had had an earlier romance with an Irishman by the name of Tom Coe. The story goes that he was a soldier in S. Africa during the Boer War. There are some S.A. artefacts that support this theory.
